School security can no longer be ignored or taken for granted.  It is every parent’s desire for their children to receive a quality education, and at the same time want assurance their children will be protected through effective school security.  School security dictates that all electronic equipment such as cell phones, music players, electronic games and remote control toys not is allowed inside the school.  Emergency teams have been organized at many schools to oversee school security and emergency preparedness.

School security rules require all visitors to check in the office upon arrival.  School security lists among others, all parents, volunteers and even substitute teachers as visitors.  For the most part they will need to sign in and wear a badge until they leave to promote school security.

It is a real challenge for schools to enforce school security and still keep a friendly, inviting atmosphere.  Doors many times must be kept locked except for one, which is manned by a security guard, and visitors must have a background check to ensure they don’t have some sort of criminal background to help ensure school security.

School security strives to keep youngsters safe from threats from terrorists, dangers from gangs, and safety from parental kidnapping.  School security provides emergency response and management from bomb threats, attacks on staff, lock downs and evacuations, media relations and dealing with police personnel.

The benefits of school security are clearly seen when student’s welfare and ability to learn are affected by illegal drug activity.

How to keep schools safe through school security must be analyzed by the crime problems associated with each individual school.  School security can then prevent, intervene, and suppress problems more efficiently.   Law enforcement agencies, social service agencies, teachers, parents, students and the community as a whole need to work together to assure adequate school security.
