School Bus

Online shools are a great way to save money with your college education!

Many children rely on the school bus as their primary mode of transportation to and from school.  Though many children will never find themselves in dangerous situations, accidents can and do happen.  The best way to prevent an accident is by using good judgment and avoiding situations that place you in harm’s way.  To ensure the safety of children who ride the school bus, there are many precautions that they can take.

First, children who walk to the bus stop should understand the importance of staying clear from the road.  Rough playing, running, and carelessness should all be avoided.  Children should understand that they should stay on the sidewalk when walking to the bus stop.  Parents should also observe how their children are walking to the bus stop.  It may be best for parents to walk with young children, and advise older children to walk together.  Some rural areas may not have sidewalks.  In these situations, children should form a single file line and stay as far away from the road as possible.  If children need to cross a street to reach their school bus stop, then teach them the correct way to cross.  Have them stop, look left, then right, then have them look to the left one more time.  It is also recommended that your children wear bright colored clothing that will help them be easily identifiable by drivers. The general rule of thumb is to stand at least ten feet from the road when waiting at a school bus stop.  Make sure that children leave for the bus on time, if they are late, they may try to run to catch the bus, and this could lead to an accident.

When children are exiting and entering the bus, they should always wait for the school bus to come to a complete stop before moving.  It is also important to use the handrail regularly to prevent slipping or falling. As long as children practice safety rules, remember to be courteous, respectful, and watch for traffic around them, they should find that riding the school bus is safe and easy.
