Medical SchoolsTake online medical courses and get yourself into the lucrative medical field! There are literally hundreds of medical schools in the United States and they are chosen by thousands of students each year based on a variety of criteria. A medical student can expect to pay, on average, $200,000 US Dollars (USD) on obtaining their medical degree. Medical schools vary in size, specialty, and ranking and may be public or private institutions. The programs offered by medical schools vary along with the tuition. From Harvard Medical School to Ohio State University, medical students can expect to take classes for a minimum of eight years. Potential medical students spend four years in pre-med and another four years in medical school honing their area of interest. Whether a student is interested in private practice, general or specialty, or medical research, they often apply to several medical schools unless they are part of the small percentage of students who receive full scholarship. In a recent US News survey, Harvard Medical School was ranked number one amongst research medical schools. In the primary care arena, the University of Washington took the lead. Of public medical schools offering financial aid, The University of Nebraska College of Medicine ranked number one with 100% of its enrolled students receiving some sort of aid, though the University of California – Los Angeles had a higher number receiving grants or scholarships. Choosing from amongst the countries top medical schools can be difficult, but the choice is not based merely on personal desire. Grade point average, SAT scores and other academic merits are of great importance to future medical students. It is a personal investment as the majority of graduates begin their medical career a few hundred thousand dollars in debt. Potential medical students should carefully evaluate their medical school of choice and thoroughly talk through their academic course with a trained councilor. |
