Children are filled with wonder and are experiencing the world for the first time. Elementary education is a great opportunity for children to learn through creativity and to express themselves through art and music as well as learning the art of cooperating with others. The amount of learning as opposed to play time in elementary education varies according to the grade. Children in kindergarten spend the majority of their time in play, whereas fifth graders spend the majority of their time learning. Quality elementary education is crucial for the development of a child’s reasoning, social and creative skills and teachers who can balance instruction with enthusiasm and a creative touch are the best guides for young minds.

Elementary education begins in kindergarten when children learn the ABCs, numbers, colors and shapes. Most children have some grasp of these concepts before beginning elementary education, but Kindergarten helps to solidify these skills and to prepare them to learn how to read in the first grade. Kindergarten is mostly devoted to play time, and social development and children are given lesson s and examples on how to behave. Elementary education continues in the first grade as children learn to read their first words and to do simple addition and subtraction. More time is spent in learning, but there is still a fair amount of play time, but the play is incorporated into activities such as music and art. Elementary education is crucial at this time, and children may be placed in different classes depending on their reading level and their mathematical ability.

In the later grades of elementary education, children develop their reading and math skills further. Other subjects such as history and science are also added. Elementary education usually involves just one teacher for the same class of kids, and it is in junior high that students begin to get different teachers for different subjects.
