Distance Education

Distance Education is a great way to earn a college degree in your spare time!

When students considered earning a degree in the past, the assumption was that they would pack up their crates and move to campus to begin their college careers. Nowadays with the internet, distance education has become a much more popular choice than it was in the past, because it has never been easier to learn from home. All that is required is a good computer with a fast modem, and you can be on your way to earning your diploma in virtually any field through distance education.

The number of colleges and universities offering distance education degrees is increasing at lightning pace and the diplomas they reward to distance education students look exactly like any other diploma. There is no stigma in distance education, and in no sense is it in any way inferior to earning a degree within the school’s four walls. Distance education classes have websites for each class usually and students can watch and listen to lectures at their convenience by downloading audio and video files, or read articles posted on the site. The course website also may link to other sites for more information. Homework in the form of papers can be handed in by e-mail or though fax. Discussions with instructors can be accomplished through IM or by telephone. The possibilities for distance education are virtually endless, and every course employs technology according to its needs.

Many people think that they cannot earn degrees in fields such as nursing and culinary arts through distance learning. While nursing requires internships and culinary arts requires a practical component, a good portion of the degree can be accomplished through distance learning. Visual demonstrations can be downloaded and nurses can pursue internships in their area while doing homework on the internet. Even automotive repair can be learned through video files and while students needs to take tests onsite, this is infrequent and usually only for examinations.
