Everywhere you turn you see only back to school this and that. All the retailers put out lucrative offers on their stock of back to school supplies. Many throw in a host of freebies too. Hence it is a good idea to do your shopping for back to school supplies once you begin seeing the advertisements. This way you get more for your money.

Many of us find ourselves having bought a lot of stuff which then lies unused. It is easy to get confused and overwhelmed by the range of products on offer. So planning ahead can help you in a big way. Keep an eye out for the advertisements on back to school supplies that appear in the print media. Go through the extra supplies from the previous year and set aside the things that can be used this year.

Next, make a list of all the essential back to school supplies that you don’t have. Shop according to this list and do not allow yourself to get distracted when in the department store. Steer your children away from the branded stuff and the ones with the logos which are usually more expensive. It is not necessary to buy everything on the teacher’s list before class starts. Often the teacher might change his or her mind and that particular item may not be required at all.

While out shopping for back to school supplies, be sure to stock up on items required for your home office. A lot of things like paper, pens and pencils can be obtained at much lower prices during this time. If you have more than one child, encourage them to share and use hand-me-downs in good condition.
