Art SchoolsLearn about different art degree programs for you to choose from!Early artists probably did not even think about earning degrees through art schools. Early artists simply followed the artistic fashion of the time. Today, budding artists are interested and enthusiastic about creating art and learning all they can about the subject of art. There are hundreds of art schools for these students to choose from that will give them the bachelors or masters degree that they are seeking. When you are looking at art schools, you should know that there are differences in them. However, the premises behind them are basically the same. Most art schools will start out teaching the basics of art starting with the foundation courses. Then, students are allowed to go into their particular art fields. Most art schools will start out teaching about painting, printmaking, photography and even sculpture. Art schools teach painting so that students will learn about composition principles and color. Sculpture is taught so that students will learn how to work with different media such as plaster, wood, metal and the processes and techniques of each. Students learn about printmaking so they can experience the lithographic and intaglio process. Photography is taught to teach students about light, how to operate cameras and film. All art students are encouraged to try and experience various forms of art in the early years because it makes their background well rounded. The good thing about art schools is they usually do not expect their students to declare a major until they are well into their sophomore year. Some art schools do not require students to state a major until their junior year. Not making students declare a major too soon ensures that students know what field they are interested in and they do not waste their time exploring areas that they will not choose as a profession. Many prospective art students have difficulty deciding between art schools and universities. The plus side of enrolling in a university art program is that if you decide later that you want to transfer your major to another department, you do not have leave the school. If students who are enrolled in art school decide to change their focus and pursue another form of study they will have to transfer to another school. If you are interested in being around a diverse group of people, you may want to consider the university route. The plus side of art school is that everyone attending the school will be like minded. You will be living with and residing with students who are as equally interested in art as you. This can be beneficial to a student who needs to be surrounded by peers that are the same. The student to teacher ratio is usually lower in art schools than universities. Art schools usually work to help their graduates find jobs that are art related. There is no right or wrong choice. Students should make their schooling decisions based upon their individual needs. Whichever route students take, be it art schools or universities, they can graduate knowing that they have paved their way to future success. |
